In June 2023, Omnivoltaic proudly showcased its first sets of electric motorcycles at the UN-Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya.
Event Snapshot
The event convened to explore solutions for sustainable urban development aligned with the theme, “A sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective multilateralism: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in times of global crises.”
The assembly highlighted the urgency of innovative and sustainable mobility solutions.
Event Highlights
Our participation stood as a testament to Omnivoltaic’s commitment to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). As an efficient electric motorcycle designed for both urban and rural settings, our solutions address the twin goals of reducing transportation emissions and providing affordable mobility options, particularly in underserved areas.
This event coincided with a pivotal moment for Kenya, as First Lady Rachel Ruto took a bold step toward championing sustainable transport. In a symbolic act, she cycled from State House to Gigiri, approximately between 25-35KM, just to emphasize the importance of sustainable transport modes and launching the Global Alliance of Cities for Road Safety. Her advocacy dovetailed perfectly with the goals of electric mobility, underscoring the need for collective action to build cleaner, safer cities.
Omnivoltaic’s presence at the assembly fostered collaborations with key players in the electric mobility ecosystem. Our CTO, featured on KBC News, engaged in meaningful dialogues about the opportunities and challenges in advancing e-mobility across Africa and beyond.
When asked about the benefits of electric motorcycles, this is what Dr. Huashan Wang had to say;
- "For every litre of normal gas, you can drive with something like 35-45KM, and that will cost you probably 180-190KSH. For the same distance using electricity, it will cost you roughly 30KSH. This is a big cost differential comparing traditional fuel with electricity"
These conversations underscored the importance of cross-sector partnerships to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles globally. Specifically on why Omnivoltaic electric motorcycles, this is what our CTO commented as an added advantage;
- "You can also swap out the traditional (to mean fuel-driven) engine, and insert an electric drive train into the traditional bike."
